It was a big year for Travel Weekly’s Readers Choice Awards — our biggest yet. The awards program celebrated its 20th anniversary of recognizing the finest travel companies in the industry, and this year we presented accolades in a record 82 categories. The gala dinner also shifted its location to the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Attendees gathered in the atrium around the signature display of barosaurus and allosaurus fossils and dined in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life under the museum’s unforgettable blue whale.

But one thing didn’t change from previous years: the celebratory flavor of the night. The mood was joyous as the industry paid tribute to our Lifetime Achievement and Sustainability award winners and honored both Readers Choice winners and finalists — and the travel advisors who got them there.

2022 Sustainability Award

THE TRAVEL CORPORATION

Travel Weekly’s Sustainability Award was given to the Travel Corporation in recognition of its long-standing commitment to sustainable practices. The company in 2008 launched its nonprofit TreadRight Foundation, which provides financial support for initiatives that “align with the planet, its people and its wildlife”; the organization has since supported 60-plus projects worldwide. In 2020 it launched a companywide sustainability strategy based on 11 measurable goals, and in 2021 it became a signatory to the Glasgow Declaration, committing itself to a net-zero goal.

“Through its creation and funding of the TreadRight Foundation and its commitment to auditing and transparency, the Travel Corporation has created a template for responsible, sustainable travel,” said Arnie Weissmann, editor in chief of Travel Weekly.
